Many people have chosen to go there: tourism has become a big part of the nation's
economy. The fact that more than one million tourists
visit Costa Rica each year does not happen by chance:

Costa Rica is practically the country of eco
tourism -- travel that incorporates education
about the environment and promotes preservation of
natural resources. The country has a large number
of national parks and nature preserves
that boast a rich array of birds, mammals, reptiles
and rain-forest plants. The variety of birds,
in particular, is astounding: Some 850 species are
packed into a relatively small area.

Costa Rica, located in Central America, is an isthmus
where life seems to have created its roots. Covering
only 0.03% of the surface of our planet, Costa Rica
has approximately 6% of the world's bio diversity.

The country has good conditions for a number of adventure
sports, among them surfing, river rafting,
hiking and scuba diving. Those who prefer a less strenuous
vacation can view more than 50 volcanoes,
take boat trips down jungle rivers
and float through the treetops in the world's first
Rain Forest Aerial Tram.

In addition, Costa Rica is characterized by an impressive
scenic beauty, social and political stability, high
educational levels, and efficient infrastructure and
services. All these characteristics you can find in
a territory of only 51 thousand square kilometers,
surrounded by both the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans,
only three to four hours away from each other by land
or 45 minutes by air.

Costa Rica’s territorial division includes
7 provinces, that is: San José, Alajuela, Cartago,
Heredia, Guanacaste, Puntarenas and Limón.
Together they offer an attractive tourist destination,
of almost limitless possibilities.

The Caribbean region of Costa Rica
stands out for its variety of aquatic ecosystems and
its beautiful white and black sand beaches, providing
an ideal setting for activities such as sport fishing,
snorkeling, and sun bathing.
The Pacific coast concentrates big tourist centers
and its beaches are very popular for surfing, for
example Esterillos, Jaco, Hermosa, Boca Barranca.
In the Golfito region, near the Marino Ballena National
Park, surfing fans can find the famous "long
lefthander wave."
